I can't say for sure that it would happen in this case, but a personal anecdote makes me very dubious of these sort of things. A forum I'm involved in had a group purchase pool going for some repro of a hard-to-find part for a rare car, and the benchmark was if they could get 200 signups, they'd go ahead and get the run going. After much advertisement and trouble, they hit that 200 and authorized the production. In the end, they got about 13 completed sales and much ill will among the forum members, the producer of the parts, and the guy who had led the group build. Given a hypothetical build that wants 2,500, I have a very hard time believing that anyone could turn up that many IIfx users willing to pay for memory upgrades without a massive, worldwide advertising campaign.
