Apple did sell oppositely angled power connectors, and at least one use of the unconventional cable in question was indeed in certain of the 'Espresso' design LaserWriters. More specifically, the Personal Laserwriter 300 and 4/600 require these oddly shaped power connectors, or else must be used with one of the port covers removed. (There are two port covers on these, these being on each side at the rear. The first is for localtalk/ serial cabling and the other for power; there is not a lot of room in there, so a specifically angled power connector is needed.) Maybe there were other models in the LaserWriter series as well that required such a cable, like the LW12/640. I haven't encountered one of those in the flesh, however, so I am not sure.
What I do know from personal experience is that finding the cable with the correct angle at the end can be a right pain, or alternatively, a 'right angled pain' (ho, ho), for those who find that one of these aforementioned printers has turned up without its matching power cable. But a little rummaging will generally alleviate such angular pain. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Vintage Macs group.
