If it doesn't show the ICON in the middle of the screen it's not trying 
to boot from a disk (even if there is no disk).  That's a problem.  I'd 
pull the motherboard and reseat the RAM.  If there is no RAM, you need 
some, there is no motherboard RAM.

Not a problem, it should still at least get to the boot stage.
