I've never quite seen anything like that in Apple CRT's.. And I've
been using them for quite some time. (14 years) The usual signs of
monitor decline that I've seen is something like the whole monitor
taking on a pink hue, or a blue hue, I'm not sure what happens
technically, but that's when it stops scanning a certain color. I've
also seen monitors decline where the image gets squished vertically,
and you have to hit it to re align it.
Usually, if you can hit the side of the monitor and it reverts to
normal, that's bad. It sounds like what you have is normal, since some
others said they experienced that too. However, it it worsens or
starts to have other trouble, then I would start getting worried.
Generally, when a CRT monitor goes out, the best thing to do is find a
new one (Well in this case, a new old one) as they are very hard to
service, and generally very hard to diagnose.
