Hello. I picked up today a Performa 630 that I won on ebay and I'm well happy with it!
I got: the 630 with 36MB RAM (and TV tuner!) 15 inch Apple monitor 2GB external hard disk SCSI Agfa snapscan 300 scanner SCSI Epson colour printer SCSI All of this is MINT and in original packaging! All the Apple inserts and pamphlets are still there too! It's like it came out of the shop yesterday! And I paid £5 for it. FIVE POUNDS! Amazing.... Anyway, i bought it as I saw it was without a bid and very cheap and was only a 45 minute drive from me. It's running system 7.5.5 and it really feels very nice to use so far, incredibly responsive. I've been reading up a little this afternoon and am keen to upgrade this in a few ways so would appreciate some advice. I would like to connect this to my home network. If I get an ethernet card, will it be possible for me to hook this up to my router and connect this 630 to my G5 tower for file sharing? I understand that the motherboard caddy from a 6300 series can fit in the 630, is it as simple as just swapping them? I'm thinking about grabbing a 6300 PPC 120Mhz board to slide in so I can have the option of going to os 8.6 and adding more RAM (is that possible?) Also, are there any limits to the size of the internal HDD? If I grab a 1 or 2GB ide drive from ebay for a few pounds, will the system recognise it?? Sorry for the manic tone and multiple questions, I'm a complete newb at vintage macs! :-D Steve --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Vintage Macs group.
