Alex, Perhaps I am missing something, but so what? Is there value in the serial number?
My guess is that the system is probably an off lease unit which was supposed to be destroyed... The serial number was removed to prevent the original owner (who required the destruction) from discovering the machine was not. I have seen this on Quad G5 units... Ground to bits... Quite a pity.
