Be careful.  Specifically, when removing parts it's not uncommon to peal 
up traces on the circuit board.  People often recommend using a small / 
low power soldering iron for this kind of work.  I recommend the 
opposite, I use a 40 W iron for de-soldering work.  The thing is, you 
want to heat the solder up quickly and pull the part out.  By using a 
lot of heat the solder melts soonest WITHOUT transferring as much heat 
to surrounding parts.
