If memory serves me correctly, the earlier "auto-inject" FDHD drives aligned differently with certain Macs' bezels than did the later "manual-inject" drives (the ones with the little black dust-door). I had this problem once myself, and had to get the proper drive to make it accept floppies properly through the bezel.
