The only reason I can think of where a Mac SE (the later-in-life
"SuperDrive" or "FDHD" variety) wouldn't properly read a disk created on a
Mac Plus is when High-Density1.4MB floppies were used in the Plus, but
formatted as 800K.  The Plus' older-model drive doesn't have the hardware
switch to recognize the "HD" hole in 1.4MB disks, so happily formats them as
800K, whereas the SE will detect the hole, see the 800K format as
"unrecognizeable", and offer to format the disk.

I've actually had this happen myself, and it often takes a few moments to
figure out what's going on.  :-)
