Can you check the voltage of the batteries with a multi-meter to determine if
they still have somewhere near 3.6v each or are dead?
I remember starting up my IIfx with some old weak PRAM batteries a few months
ago but it was assembled in a Mac II case, so don't know about a caseless one.
And I did not check the voltage on the batteries at that time but it did boot
OK.
Leaking capacitors are a real concern, look closely for an dark residue near
them. I'm afraid some of my vintage Mac's will soon need cap replacements. I
had an IIsi die from that ailment.
Good luck with your IIfx project --glen
