I've got a collection of LC type systems (quadras, performas, LC's etc) all 68k based that I want to set up with the Apple IIE cards and fix up to sell.
I'm not really looking to make a profit, just enjoying myself collecting the systems and revamping them. So I have no idea what the marketability of it would be (probably not much, but hey, it's been fun). So my questions are the following: What is a good system to standardize on these machines for the Apple IIE card use and networking? I didn't use these systems much growing up, just the older ones. So is 7.5.5 a good choice? Some of these systems are running anything from 6.0.8 to 8.1 on them. They are kind of split into two groups memory wise; the 475 type group that all have around 36MB in them, and another group that have 4-8MB in them (lower end LCs). I'm guessing 7.5.5 is good for the higher end and 6.0.8 for the lower end? or should I shoot for 8.1 on the higher end and 7.1 on the lower end? Really the purpose is to have a good restored general use 68k mac machine that also does the Apple IIE stuff. I've noticed these machines work great on LCD monitors in 640x480 or 800x600 with the VGA converter thingies just fine. Also I'm thinking of replacing the CAPs on these machine to help them last longer. What would be the marketability of these machines do you think? Like $50-$150 per machine only? I think I paid more for that for the machines, Apple IIE cards and restoration parts/time though... Should I buy some beige 15" monitors to sell with these machines or just assume interested parties would already have a monitor or get their own? There seems to be a huge shortage of Apple IIE card cables. Like everyone has the card, but missing the odd split cables for them for the external disk and joystick use. I think I have the parts sources and the pinouts figured out to make these cables myself, but do you think people would be interested? I guess this might be a topic more for the LEMSwap crowd but that list seems pretty strict about just posting For Sale/Buy only... Thanks for your opinions, this has been a fun project! -- ----- You received this message because you are a member of the Vintage Macs group.
