My Performa 6400 with PCI running OS 8.6 supports my two-port USB card no problem, but crashes with my bridged Orangelink USB/Firewire card. OS 9 sometimes needs a little coaxing to support USB cards since they removed third-party USB adapter support in OS 9. This requires installing USB Adapter Support 1.4.1, and maybe moving some old USB extensions from 8.6 to 9.x. if the former doesn't seem to work.
Any Powermac with PCI should support a USB card, at USB 1.0 (and 1.1) speeds, however. I don't know, and somewhat doubt, that there are non-PCI USB cards. Feel free to correct me if there are.
