You could try scraping some of the material from the clip, just to make sure there is a good contact patch. This should allow you to test.
You will need to neutralize and remove the corrosion for a permanent fix. In the states, Radio Shack sells a product which works well, I use it to clean corrosion in Mac 128/512/Plus machines with excellent results: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3511774 Perhaps you can locate something similar?
