Derek;
this is what I have tried so far.
mac os 7.6.1 (lc 475) AppleTalk/localtalk(w macTCP and appleshare 3.8.3)
to os 8.1 (lc 475) ethernet(ethertalk?) to PC box running netatalk and afp
3.1.
the os 8.1 box is running IpNetRouter.
connecting from os 7.6.1 to PC with appleshare and ethernet address.
seems to work just fine.
I would think 7.5.5 on a 68030/68040(i.e. classic II) will work just fine.
I do not have os 10.x to talk to.
tried Shareway IP program. acts like a server.
it seems to be something you run on the os 10.x box and connect to the os
7.5.5 box
via ethernet addresses.
mounts the remote disks just like appleshare.
do not know if this is what you are needing.
requires tcp/ip on the 7.5.5 box with appleshare 3.8.3.
good luck;
dale

I decided to dig through the old emails and finally did find an old thread
about this same issue. The program which provides access to older
versions of the OS is ShareWay IP at:
http://www.opendoor.com/shareway/
This program is supposed to allow 7.5.5 (68K & PPC) and up to access up to
10.5.x servers. I am going to do a little reading and almost certainly
give it a shot. If it does work with 10.4.x and 10.5.x, I may upgrade my
server to a newer version.
Does anybody have experience with this program?
I believe Apple bought shareway, or at least part of it, for delivery with
OS 8.
It was originally developed for use over a wide area network where it made
it possible to use "standard" interface techniques in the world beyond
Apple.
It was also expensive requiring copies for each machine and that's why I
never used it. That may have been fixed.
