Okay, a quick update: I have been puzzling over my Castlewood Orb drive, and I have a question: IF I have the right adapters (HD50M —> HD68F, HD68M —> 50F), can I even use the drive with Mac OS 7.6.1? OR, do I need a more advanced operating system to use the drive (e.g. Mac OS X)? I think the drive is SCSI-3, but I may be wrong.
Also, if anybody has solutions to the following items, please post answers here: (items marked with a (**) are the most important) 1) a suitable OS7 driver and software package for a Castlewood Orb 2.2GB (*NOT requiring another mac in the process) **2) Private VPN hosting software (a server) for use in system 7.6.1. (given you already have a domain you can use or some other way to put it on the internet…) **3) A downloading app (downloads files from HTTP and FTP servers) for system 7.6.1 and 7.5.3. (can be different apps...) (I have tried Fetch and Transmit, see below for my issue…) **4) YOUR FAVORITE browser for system 7 and 8 macs (I've tried Netscape and iCab…Netscape 2 crashed too often, and iCab cannot download anything correctly) 5) how-to for setting up a mac system 7 as a web server and FTP server **6) a copy of DeskTape Pro (or other similar application) that is NOT corrupted. I've found a lot of copies, but all of them unstuff to a corrupted app (size being 0 bytes). If an alternative app is found, that is fine too! For those of you who are not familiar with this app, it allows you to mount tapes from tape drives on the desktop, and use them like a floppy drive or a hard disk. Drag-and-drop files, copy to and from, etc... 7) Any other cool or interesting apps. Really, aside from all the other stuff, I'm trying to build a collection of awesome apps that I once loved….Screensavers, hacks, games, utilities, apps that make my machine dance (ha!), music players, everything is welcome. And adding the following questions from my last post: 8) A way to make older macs have "sleeping" functionality like newer macs do…(spin down HD, pulse LED light, monitor off, uses less power this way, etc…) 9) This is a stretch, but is there a manual way to manipulate the LED lights on the keyboard? I saw an app that could "blink" the keyboard lights (Scroll Lock, Num Lock, and Caps Lock) if your system needed your attention…is there a manual way to trigger or initiate this? 10) VNC capabilities. Need VNC server software for Mac OS 7.5.x and 7.6.x. **11) Software for a Newton or an eMate. If anybody has any interesting apps, either for connecting a mac and a newton, or apps for the newton itself, please list names and/or download links here. 12) Is there a way to make a tape drive FAST-FORWARD a tape to its end? 13) Alternative to Finder. If anybody has another file manger, or a suitable alternative, please list it here. 14) If these exist, CPU accelerators for a Performa (power mac) 6110 or Performa 6214. **15) Software to list current devices connected over ADB, SCSI, Ethernet, Serial, etc... (can be different apps…) **16) Unidisk support. If anybody has a way to connect a 5.25 Unidisk drive to a Mac SE, or any Performa, please list solutions here. I've heard you may need to install a certain floppy compatibility card, but I am not sure. If you know, please share your knowledge! :) I really need answers (especially) to numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 15, and 16 (marked with an asterisk). Also, just a minor issue: I have tried (with a lot of failure) to use Fetch and Transmit as FTP browsers. Every time I use either, I get a connection error. I believe the source of this error is due to some error in the configuration of IPNetRouter. Does anybody have a solution to allow FTP browsing access while using IPNetRouter? I have tried what I can, but I know very little about the configuration of that piece of software. Solutions appreciated! Thanks everybody, and have a great holiday! -Jake > On Dec 18, 4:32 pm, Jake <[email protected]> wrote: > Well, I am happy to say that the Internet is working just great! > Thanks so much everybody.
