Do you know if you are running Open Transport on the 5500 and 6100 and
if so what version?

Also you stated you have gotten this to work in the past, do you know
if there were any firmware upgrades to your Airport just before your
vintage Macs stopped being able to obtain IP addresses? I think the
last one was in January of this year.
