I've come across a problem involving veteran Macs and them obtaining
an IP address.
The setup is as follows:
Power Macintosh 6100 & 5500 -> 10/100Mbit hub -> Airport Extreme
Gigabit -> WAN.
Show us the rest of the set-up... Exactly what's set in the TCP/IP
control panels.
The problem I have is that this setup has worked very well in the
past, but stopped working at some point for no apparent reason at
all. At first I suspected the LAN-ports not switching to 10MBps, but
since testing and printing to an ancient HP JetDirect server, it
seems the LAN ports work fine.
Reconfigure to use manual addressing, to verify that you have basic
IP connectivity. Use tools such as WhatRoute or IPNetMonitor to ping
around, test dns, etc.
Does anyone have an idea where this problem might've come from?
Since the Airport is the common denominator, perhaps its DHCP
settings are foo? At the min, reboot it.
