Okay. I've looked throughout Finder and Chooser on 7.5.5, and for the
life of me, I can't find where the option is to connect to a server that
does not show up in the chooser's list.
Something to note about this is when you have a server in there that
you'll never be connecting to again, you'll want to delete it from the
list when you disconnect for the last time.
Why? Because it only shows servers that are available to be connected
to, but it remembers ALL servers you've ever connected to and attempts
to contact the entire list. It tends to be very slow about giving up on
servers it can't contact. Get several in there it can't ping and it will
take a very long time about giving up.
What makes it extra troublesome is the only way to remove a server that
cannot be found is to delete the network configuration preferences file
and set everything up again - or keep a backup of the preferences file
after you've established all the servers you know will be staying
around, then use that file to replace the current one when it gets
cluttered with server entries you can't delete.
AFAIK, nobody ever wrote a program to edit the file to remove server
entries. Apple never provided a way to clean it up.
