I'd avoid soldering directly on the batteries if I were you.  Soldering to
batteries can be a very dangerous proposition because batteries tend to
explode when you put a soldering iron to them unless you do it VERY
carefully.

As such, I'd solder the circuit board end.  I've never actually done it on
a PowerBook, but that's what I'd do.
