Since there has been some discussion of soldering batteries, I will
offer my advice on the subject. I have soldered hundreds of NiCd
batteries and quite a few alkaline batteries for radio control TX and
flight packs. I have never soldered a lithium battery, but since the
consensus is the you can safely replace them with combinations of AA
alkalines, I wouldn't think it would be necessary. :}

The key to soldering batteries is having a large tipped iron capable of
getting really hot. For this I use an old '50s vintage iron with a wood
handle and striped cloth covered cord. Grounded? What's grounded?
Whether you use rosin core solder or not, use soldering paste on the
contacts on the batteries. Just prior to the point where the iron is hot
enough to start vaporizing the solder (hazardous to your health) add
solder to it, unplug it and quickly apply it to the battery ends. remove
the iron as soon as you see it start to take hold (less than 2 seconds).
If the battery is getting warm in your hand you have taken too long. Let
the battery cool, then add any lead wires in the same way.

Solder contacts are much more reliable than any kind of pressure
contact. and more resistent to corrosion resistance (like ohms man).
