I just made contact with the last of my friends who work in Manhattan.
All are safe. One had to spend the last two nights in his Mid-town
office He watched the WTC towers fall from his office window. Those of
us who have been in the WTC can't believe those massive permanent
feeling buildings are gone. My wife used to work on the 87th floor and
is in shock. We, at least, can breathe now and take a break many others
don't have this luxury.
By way of a diversion, I recently picked up a lot of 5 keyboards on
eBay. four were SE vintage. One is peculiar. It's an Apple Keyboard II
(Family Number M0487, Copyright 1991, Made in Mexico). It is in brand
new condition. No dirt, no yellowing, no scratches, no wear.
Outwardly, it looks identical to a Malaysian one I have but the keys are
quite different. Most keys are marked with large non-italicized block
letters and numbers. The delete key is bright yellow and marked "Erase".
The Return key is bright green and marked "Enter". The ~/` , +/= , tab,
{/[ , }/] , control, option, command and esc., keys are all blank! The
|/\ key is marked "Next Line". Above the "2" key, instead of @, is a
black heart. Nothing looks at all like it has been modified. This new
condition keyboard came this way originally. All of the keys do what
they do on a standard keyboard. The wiring is the same.
What is this thing?
