I know there was one more version of the DayStar Turbo 601 Control panel after 1.1. It was obtained from DayStar after sending a Turbo 601 in for a ROM update so that a IIvi/IIvx using it could have more than 256 colors on the built in video. After downloading the 1.1 software from DayStar and reading the instructions on updating from the 1.0 control panel, it's obvious that all DayStar did was pop the card into a IIvi or IIvx with the 1.1.x control panel installed and boot it up. :) I just wonder what advantages the 1.1.x ROM would provide for a Turbo 601 in any other Mac?
The main problem I have is that even though SCSI Manager 4.3 is in the ROM in the Turbo 601, it just will not work correctly even if it is enabled before a clean install of the system is done. It crashes and apps that require SM4.3 claim it isn't there. Install with SM4.3 off and it's OK but still no apps that require it will work. System 7.5.1 through 8.1 supposedly put SM4.3 into the system file if it's not in the ROM on 040 Macs. I assume that the installer is either picking up the IIci as an 030 or the Turbo 601 as a PowerMac and either way it's not putting SM4.3 into the System file when it's disabled with the DayStar control panel. :( Trying the SM4.3 extention from System 7.5 does nothing. I suppose I could try a couple of test installs with System 7.5 and see under which conditions, if any, the installer places the SCSI Manager 4.3 extention on the hard drive. 'Course that would be moot if the version 1.1.x ROM fixes SCSI Manager 4.3 so it will actually work with System 7.5.1 and higher. ===== "The earth swarms with inhabitants.
