I've got such a collection of eclectic and semi useless equipment, I don't dare bring home another MO drive ;-) I will take the advise of using the same formatter on all the disks, although I think I tried that a long time ago with Silver Lining. Maybe it would be a good time to try it again. I may try it with an earlier OS on my old Quadra. I have a neighbor who is a Windows guru who may be able to help with a low level format with a PC SCSI controller. That will be plan B. Another helpful hint was cleaning the drive mechanism, and the disks, to remove dust and fuzz bunnies. This will be the first step. I like the idea to work with one disk and run it through its paces, thus isolating the problem.
In reply to the other helpful people, this was a 3.5" MO drive purchased from MacDirect in 1994, with a 128 / 256 Meg capability. It came with Hard Disk ToolKit. Your caution about using the HDTK drivers may be part of the problem! I do have an old edition of HDTK personal edition, and picked up later copies, which I'm sure I mixed. The size format changed after a year or so and they dropped the 256M format and introduced the 230 M and the 320 M. The disks were labeled MOST. I have two friends who have used this same drive and have not had problems, except when they try to open one of my disks! I t seems once the disk is 'gorked', nothing seems to work on it.
