Does it seem logical that it would be anywhere near that?  Sounds like the
monitor would have to be about 27" on the diagonal with a really damn good
video card to give anywhere *near* that resolution.

Monitors can be damaged by trying to overdrive them at a higher resolution
than they can support, but most are designed so as to simply turn off if
they can't produce a "good" image.
