I have MacTCP installed. I installed PPP 2.5, but it kicked and complained that I didn't have OS 7.1. Trashed it, downloaded & installed PPP 2.01. I still can't open a connection. When I try to open the TCP panel to check the settings, I get a system -39 error. Modem seems to be plugged in and the phone jack works fine.
I am tempted at this point, to start the Mac without extensions, trash all the above and reinstall TCP & PPP again. I used the instructions linked at Gamba's site to configure TCP. I do have my ISP's IP address and I set the rest of it as per the instructions. I did not use any modem init strings, so I could give that a try. Modem is Supra Diamond 33.6 and should use pretty standard inits. I also tried using a slower speed on the modem, as that will sometimes do the trick. PPP does not seem to see the modem at all.
