The red stripe is for wire or pin number 1. The board around the cable connections is always marked in some way to indicate pin 1. Sometimes with a number, sometimes with a white triangle or the connector is outlined in white with a thicker border at the end where the red side of the cable goes.
That's convention on both Mac and PC for all ribbon cables. :) Hard drive power connectors have two beveled edges so you can't plug them in wrong without breaking things. "OT-land" stuff. For the AT type PC mobo power plugs, they go black wires together and they have small bumps that go towards the "high wall". Some plugs have some of the bumps a bit taller so you have to tilt the plugs and catch the bumps under the top of the connector before tipping them up straight and pushing down. I always take a pair of nail clippers and "adjust" the height of the taller bumps to make the connection easier. (They aren't needed and it isn't much good to catch the connector _after_ it's come loose.) The ATX mobo connector is one piece, fits only one way and has an annoyingly useless tiny little catch that's usually oriented so it's nearly imposssible to get at to release. As for the floppy bay blank bezel, since there's a gazillion past and present companies that make or made PC cases, the chances of any random plug fitting your case are slim. Take one of the others along so you can find as good a match as you can. Most important is the length of the tabs. If they are too wide you can trim them. Deity help you if the case is a big name one like Dell, HP or Compaq. They love to custom design EVERY part of their cases. (But not as much as they used to.) BUT at least with them you can look for specific one instead of the "I dunno" brand. ;) ===== http://www.junkscience.com "All the Junk that's fit to Debunk!" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
