Was going to set up a SE in my kitchen for a recipe center but when I was
pulling the power cord off the logic board (you know, that
impossible-to-get- your-fingers-into white plug) I had my hand leaning on
the monitor yoke and CRASH I busted the yoke clean off.

Plan 2:

Had a powerbook 160 with a dud hard drive and my (generous) brother gave me
his powerbook 170 with a busted hinge (but 20 megs of ram!!). Assembled 1
good one out of the 2 and now have my kitchen computer.

Been spending time filling a little shareware app with my recipes. Wonderful
to have them all there, in alphabetical order with a search function,
instead of digging thru my stacks of cookbooks. Can add my notes and make
adjustments on the fly. Inspired me to cook up a storm this weekend, the
kids and husband enjoyed that!

Thought I was nothing short of brilliant with the idea of using a powerbook
in the kitchen. Flipped thru a Martha Stewart mag and there was a powerbook
sitting on the counter in one of the pics. Drat! Someone beat me to it : )

To keep mine a little safer from my wild cooking habits, I fixed up a little
shelf to hold it up above the counter area. Moves it up closer to eye level
also.

Know someone on the compact list has an SE or SE/30 or something in their
kitchen. (That's where I got my idea!) Figure you vintage mac'ers have an
unused machine you'd like to put to good use. If you got a cook in the
house, set him/her up with one, what fun I'm having powering mine up from
sleep at dinner time. See the powerbooks going for $30 or so, sometimes even
cheaper...Mother's Day is coming!

Those of you who beat me to this idea, would be interested in what software
or shareware you use.
