Laura remarked: >Was going to set up a SE in my kitchen for a recipe center but
. . . >Had a powerbook 160 with a dud hard drive and my (generous) brother gave me >his powerbook 170 with a busted hinge (but 20 megs of ram!!). Assembled 1 >good one out of the 2 and now have my kitchen computer. Yes indeed! Mr RA Cantrell on this list provided me with a nice little SE FDHD which right this moment sits on the kitchen counter of my SO, where it holds recipes, the maintenance records for her car, the vet stuff for her pets, etc etc etc. On my workshop bench sits an SE/30, which holds the records of my daily driver plus the info for my old '72 Triumph, the shop accounts for various projects, and the maintenance logs for the house (exterminator, plumber) and so forth. An old compact Mac or PowerBook is the ultimate notebook. Inexpensive, efficient and just the right size to fit on a countertop. The file sizes of Word or SimpleText docs are very small and easily backed-up to floppie. Put those old Macs back to work!
