They will boot with or without a monitor, the issue is that they often (I only know from the LC and LCIII) disable the video out until you reset them with a monitor plugged in meaning if they boot up into Mac OS 7.1 you can't shut it down again (the power button to shut down only works in 7.5 or later) which is kinda difficult. >I do know that the 475 will boot without a monitor, though I seem to recall >that plugging in one later would limit it to 640x480 because it didn't have >the ability to sense the max res. I have never tested this on a 475, I usually boot mine with a monitor plugged in (usually the 12" RGB that sits on the LC next to it) then unplug it (it's a server machine so it's always on) and leave it.
