I used to dial in to BBSs with my IIGS.  You need terminal emulation 
software like ProTerm.  I think I have a copy of ProTerm 3.1 kicking 
around.  You definitely do not need to spend money on upgrading this 
machine like someone had posted - it already has what it needs (i'm 
assuming you have a modem for it).  From what i've read, you just 
need the right software.
