Carolyn, The switch on a IIsi is a round push button with a slot in the middle. When the slot is orientated in one direction the switch acts like any other push on, push off switch. When the button is pushed in and the slot is rotated, it locks in the on position. This way, when the machine is told to shut down or looses power, it will automatically restart when the power is restored. This switch is common to a lot of other Macs as well.
