<just another thought... i've seen this happen on both an LC II and my LC III... and i think its connected with the monitor getting old... my PC monitor does it intermittently as well...>
I have a screaming LC 580 and I was thinking the same thing, that it is the monitor making all that noise. The noise is so nerve-wracking, it renders the computer pretty much useless.
