>I recently had given to me the following vintage Macs: (snip) Lucky!
>RAM: >--What other Macs can use the IIfx RAM besides the IIfx? >--What Macs can use RAM from a IIcx? >--What Macs can use RAM from a II? IIfx ram is proprietary 64-bit. No other Macs use it. It's really expensive, though, sell it on eBay! A ram stick for a II needs to be PAL if it is above 2MB. Once again, expensive. The ram from the IIcx should be standard 30-pin parity or non-parity (doesn't really matter). Every OTHER machine that uses 30-pin ram should be able to take it. Just check the timings before you put it in. The chips on each stick should have a dash, then a one-or-two digit number. A dash 8 means the ram is 80ns. Check LEM for the minimum speed that a specific machine can take, but I don't think any need faster than 80ns. >DAYSTAR: >Which of the above listed Macs would you install the 50 MHz >card into? None. You need an adapter for every machine other than the IIci. If you don't have an adapter, it's pretty much worthless. Sell it on eBay. Come to think of it, I'll buy it off you! ;> >APPLE: >The LCII I have has a squarish knockout missing from the >back, which is why I suspect the IIe card belongs in it. >Maybe someone tried the Daystar card in it, which needs the >PDS slot? I need confirmation. The IIe card belongs there. I hope it came with a cable, because without one you can't use any peripherals. I don't think you can use the LCIIs internal floppy to load Apple ][ programs. You need the cable and an external 3 1/4" 800k or 5 1/4" floppy drive. If you get 5 1/4" make sure it has a DB connection (like a monitor) on the end of the cable. If it's just an IDC (like an internal HD) it won't work. You can get the cable off eBay, but it'll probably cost as much as a card/cable combo. You can get the IIe system software (to run on the LC to get the card to work) from Apple's support site. _________________________________________________________________ Unlimited Internet access for only $21.95/month. Try MSN! http://resourcecenter.msn.com/access/plans/2monthsfree.asp -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
