I got motivated today and got out all the printers we have collected the last 2 years and took inventory. I wanted to find out just what the hell we have and figure out whether I can use any of them with my IIsi, IIfx or LCIII. the results were an embarassment of riches. we have no less than: 3 Canon bubblejets, models BJC-2000 BJ200e BJ200ex that appear to take either all black ink or twinned cartridges with black and color both
4 HP's-- 2 of them windows 8x0 cse's 2 of them old2279A's with appletalk ports A Lexmark 3200 that is photo capable A Compaq IJ700 that is photo capable and an Epson Stylus color 640, color, for windows I know the old HP's will print black from the appletalk printer ports. the rest of them have me perplexed. assuming I have the right cords, if i plug them into my mac II's and connect their parallel centronics parts on the printer, can i connect the DB25 end to the DB25 SCSI port or SCSI chain? if the mac 'sees' them, where will i know that? where do i look to see if it does? if it doesn't, would the makers have the drivers to let my mac II's run them? would they have them for download on their sites? would somebody else have them? how far is the differential between older mac models and newer printers they can print to? The canonBJ 200e's would be da bomb. they each have 12 dipswitches that let me choose between something like 8 international alphabets, 8 different fonts, justify left or justify center, 11 inch or 12 inch wide paper, page trued to screen res, about 8 choices, and i forget what else. according to the job I wanted to run. anybody know what era these were made for, and how hard it might be to hook them up to my 9 or 10 year old macs? I do have a centronics parallel printer cable that fits them, that also has an appletalk plug to the apple printer port on the other end. I assume the lexmark and compaq are just way too far apart in time from mine to even be considered as possible candidates for my hopes. i wouldnt expect to be able to run photgraphic quality printing from the machines I have now. I will save the windows ones for my kid's dad's 9 year old WinPc, which is sitting in the corner waiting to be reassembled after a bad trip thru the USPS. i read 3 macs and a printer::: is there any realistic chance I could set up the windows machine as my ethernet and ISP gateway, network the macs to it, and make it also a print server , thru which I could send, from the macs, printing orders for more sophisticated printing, to either of those HP or the Epson stylus color 640?
