They should a leaf out of Lexmark's book. Their cartridges actually 
last quite a long time, and don't cost *too* much to replace. Shame 
no-one seems to like their printers just because they are not too good 
at photos. They make great small-time document printers.

Also something you are maybe missing out on is that the DPI of printers 
has shot up in recent years from 300dpi to 2400dpi as standard. 
However, ink carts are not much bigger, so higher density print=more 
ink=faster usage. A good photo printer from Epson is still waaaayy 
cheaper than developing 35mm film and, for everyday use, is just as 
good on photo gloss paper.

Lexmark's drivers are flawless and have been ever since OS X 10.0.4
