I'm on digest mode and probably not on all 3 lists so forgive me if I'm
behind on this thread.

Charles, Martin -- Great Idea! Go for it!

Let me offer some perspective.

First of all it would be great to have some programming knowledge to build
such a site. A site with a database backend running on MySQL, PHP, and PERL
scripts would probably make such a site administratively feasible. You know
like MacNN, Macfixit, LowEnd Mac, Version Tracker. All of these sites are
full time work for the people involved. With that comes advertising,
subscriptions, and pleas for contributions.

Secondly, such a site would attract much attention and traffic. Currently,
the MDM averages 100-150 daily visitors and stays under my web hosts traffic
limits. A site with "everything" would attract much attention from the
software's copyright owners and would be fairly expensive to host, much more
than the $220 annual cost of hosting the MDM. The MDM with its somewhat
narrow focus, kinda stays under the radar and tries to avoid blatant
copyright infringement with the abandonware stance.

Lastly, you are more than welcome to take the software from the MDM and use
it for a all-encompassing site. Of course I also open to any assistance on
improving the MDM. You want to add a database, fix links, add content,
create better graphics for it -- cool...give me a buzz. I'm sure we can
work something out.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time or programming knowledge to create a
more comprehensive archive. I've got these things called a day job, wife,
and two little kids distracting me :)
