My only question about such a design would be strength. Without the
supporting top panel of the middle cover, would the middle cover
threaten to lose rigidity under too much stress? 

BTW, where do you get the images to work with in the first place?
Vintage Apple ads? Am I missing something here...

Maybe I could find a small enough PC motherboard, shove it in an LC,
install PC-DOS and fusion, and have a blazing fast...
