I emailed the Thursby customer support people on the 68k DAVE issue a while back and they said they did not have a version of DAVE older than the latest release (4.0) anymore, which only runs on 8.6 and up. Maybe on an auction site, flea market, etc... You could also use the previously mentioned PC MacLAN, which is a very nice piece of software which allows configuration of your AppleTalk server far above and beyond the stock capabilities of the Mac OS (unfortunately). And yes, demos are available, but too limited in functionality for frequent use. If you only need to use it occasionally, however, the demo should do fine. Otherwise, you should buy it. I have tested PC MacLAN with my IIsi (Sys 7.1) and it has no problems communicating with a vintage Mac. If you are fortunate enough to have a copy of Windows NT 4.0 Server, or Windows 2000 Server or are lucky enough to come across one, install the network service "Services for Macintosh" which is basically PC MacLAN, except much more integrated into Windows. I would advise running a Windows NT or 2000 OS over other versions of Windows, anyway, if you can get one. I've never tested NT4's Services for Macintosh even though I have it, but I'm sure it will work; it doesn't even support TCP/IP (Windows 2000 Server does) so it was probably designed for 68k era Macs. -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
