The problem with the ST line was precisely Jack Tramiel. The original ST was far better than what got shipped. It had much better graphics, better sound, better DMA, blitter, and had full SCSI. Tramiel butchered it to save money (with doubtful real savings) and also lost some of his best people as a result. It was still a nice machine, and Atari should have shot holes in Apple's frivilous lawsuit, because the original Atari GEM really was a gem compared to what they ended up shipping. > shop lately. In fact, if things had gone right, Atari would have been selling it. Jay Miner created the first Ataris and the Amiga was basically an improvement on those ideas. The Mac was nothing compared to either Atari or Amiga for some years. It is worth noting that the Mac IIgs probably had one of the best sound chips around, certainly better than Atari or Amiga at that time. What I wanted around 1988+ was an Atari ST, with SCSI, Jay Miner's graphics, MacOS UI, M/PM 68k, OS/9 68k, or UNIX down under, the sound chip in the IIgs, and Jack Tramiel to go into used cars instead of computers. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
