This isn't *entirely* true, although OT makes getting the system on the
net far easier. I'm using MacTCP under System 6.0.8 on my IIfx, and it
seems to work fine, although it's not nearly as intuitive or easy to
configure as OT is. Also, although I don't have experience with that
particular network card, I'd bet you won't need any special driver. I
have a number of nubus Macs running a wide variety of ethernet cards,
and every one was recognized automatically (assuming the Ethernet
extension is installed).

Doing ethernet under 6.0.8 is actually pretty cool. When researching
for my silent Mac article on LEM, I built a dual floppy LC with the
internal fan disabled. The thing is completely silent, and I've been
able to shoehorn System 6.0.8, MacTCP, ethernet support, and support
for my LaserWriter 16/600 onto one 1.4 meg floppy. The other floppy
drive can be used for whatever app you'd like. Most small internet apps
fit nicely on a 1.4 meg floppy, as do some smaller word processors.
It's pretty cool reading and writing e-mail in silence! Also, the LC
isn't all that slow under 6.0.8. I still have yet to use a Mac that
"feels" faster than a IIfx under System 6!
