If it was DoD and if you have a base nearby, you can attend the DRMO (Defense 
Reclaimation Management Office) auctions.  DoD policy is to turn in a computer after 
it's useful life cycle (about 5 years or so) or is no longer needed.  Usually the 
computers are bundled in bulk, but since we're talking Macs, you probably could pick 
up a bundle for fairly cheap.

Most of the computers will have the hard drive removed if it wasn't properly 
"sanitized".  DRMOs exist on bases in Europe and Asia, too.  Check your local phone 
directory.
