I've got a nice Mac IIci.
I've added a Daystar 50Mhz 68030 (plus 68882) cache accelerator card, I got from eBay :-)

I've also got 128MB of RAM and I've popped in a 160MB Apple HD that I had lying around (I have a 2GB HP SCSI drive I may add latter).
Also installed: Asante NuBus Ethernet card (10bT). Radius Precision Color 8-XJ v2.0 NuBus video card Apple Monochrome Portrait Monitor.
I've loaded this with OS 6.0.8. It all seems to work fine, and FAST! Except that with 128MB of RAM it takes a long time to start-up (memory test?).
Of course, with OS 6 I can't use my 128MB ram, so I setup a RAMdisk.
Now this got me thinking - why can I only use 8MB of program RAM? It's called 24 bit addressing, but 2 to the power of 24 is a 16M address space.
I also have a Classic II that has 10MB of RAM (2MB on the motherboard, and two 4MB simms). When I set this up with OS 6.0.8L I get to play with all 10MB, unless I'm mistaken (it was a while ago).
So what holds OS 6 back to 8MB, and why isn't that referred to as 23bit addressing? If there is no other way around it I may go back to 8MB of RAM so the machine boots faster.
Confused,
John
