Moisture or air, whatever does it, there are places
that can repair some types of LCD problems but the
price they charge is nearly always insanely high.
Much higher than the laptop is worth.

Best bet is to open the lid up and look at the LCD
itself for manufacturer and model numbers. But knowing
Apple (and most other laptop makers) they had them
customized so the only possible replacement is
exactly what came with the laptop. :P

For example, I had a Toshiba Satellite Pro 410CS
with a super dark display, the contrast dial did
nothing. It took it apart and checked the web to find
that only the 410CS and two other models used that
specific dual scan display. The same basic display
was widely used but in most cases the maker added
customized connectors permanently attached to the
panel.
The _cheapest_ one could be found was nearly $200!
So I put it all back together and just for the heck
of it booted the sucker up and amazingly it worked
perfectly.

My bet is it's the same deal with Apple's PowerBooks.
The panels are widely used but the permanently
attached
and unchangeable connections are customized for 99%
of the applications.

What'd be nice is if the panel makers would've used
a standardized connecter firmly attached directly
to the frame of the panel then made custom adapter
cables for each OEM customer.
