I've run my LC III on OS 7.6.1 and liked it. It allows the use of Open Transport which is an easy TCP suite that includes dozens of modems from which you can choose eliminating the need to produce an init string to make the modem connect.
You can install OT and OT/PPP into System 7.1, and iCab, IE4, and Netscape 4 still work fine too. Would be faster and use less memory too.
