I received a free scanner a few weeks ago and wanted to test it, but didn't
have specific drivers for it. At least one of the handful of scanner drivers
I've collected worked with it. You may have to read some and experiment some,
but this is the site I downloaded them from:

http://www.umax.co.uk/support/drivers/currentdrvr.htm

And here is some info from the site:

Are there any alternative drivers?

As many UMAX scanners share the same underlying control protocols, there is
some cross-compatibility between low- and high-end scanners. The users who
benefit most are owners of low-end SCSI scanners, many of which can be controlled
by the professional MagicScan driver.
