I dunno what "AMU" stands for, but some Mac II systems shipped with that in place of the "PMMU" chip which is the Paged Memory Management Unit, without which you can't have virtual memory. The PMMU function was integrated into the 68030 CPU. Daystar's upgrades for the Mac II plugged into the 68020 and the PMMU sockets, thus they do not require the control panel unless you want to enable the "Power Math" SANE call redirection functionality. (But for Macs where the original CPU remains in place, the control panel is required to enable the new CPU.) ===== "When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all." __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
