Hi people...
I was taking inventory of my basement, and when it came to the Macs, I found a Mac II I didn't remember having! Anyway...I powered it up, heard the chime, and it proceeded to the desktop. It has System 7.1 on it, and a few interesting apps.
The monitor I have is big enough (16 inches!) for me to use, but I do not like it at all, because it literally takes 5 seconds for a menu to disappear (you still see a shadow of it). It's a "The Big Picture" monitor.
The II has a video card in it, but I'm not sure if it can support color, because the "The Big Picture" monitor only displays black and white.
Besides eBay and the SwapList, is there any place I can get a monitor for it (preferably color)?
The type of monitor that you can use is controlled by which model of video card is installed in your computer. NuBus video cards (which are the type that the Mac II uses) are long discontinued, so you can only buy them used.
The first thing I would do is try to figure out what make and model of video card you currently have installed. Using that information, one can determine what monitors your video card can support.
Ultimately, if you need to, you can probably pick up a Radius Precision Color Pro (this is a model of NuBus video card) for under $15 which will let you use most VGA color monitors. But you would need a $2 - $4 adapter between the video card (DB15) and the monitor connector (HD-15).
