the problem is that the mac needs to boot on a non raid drive, it simply can not boot from
a raid array, you need one drive that is not part of a raid array to boot and then you can
have your applications and data on the raid drives but unfortunately not the os (i'm not
sure about the vm, you may be able to have it on the raid array which would certainly be
preferable). it's a limitation of the mac os, it's not designed to handle raid for
booting but fortunately can handle it after booting. in any case, a drive that was part
of a raid array will definitely need to be reformated/partitioned in order to work as a
non raid drive.
Well i nthat case this drive has not been in an Array, it mounts and comes up on the DT and reads A-OK. Anyhoo :)
I was unaware MAc OS (prior to OS X) was heeled and couldn't boot from RAID on any machine. I thought it was possible on later machines using special Hard Disk drivers (Like SL Pro or HDTK or SoftRAID) or a Hardware addition tha handled RAID for the Mac OS and made it transparent. I can't even boot my B&W G3 off a software RAID 0 (hardware limitation apparently), even using 10.3.
Anyone ever found a NuBus RAID controller ? ;-)
