Can't seem to do it.

Here's what I tried:

1. I used DTK to create a single 500 MB partition on the external 9 GB.

2. Marked the partition Automount and Bootable.

3. Copied a "blessed" and known bootable 7.5.5 System Folder from another external hard drive (one that had not been to used to boot the system during the current session).

4. Used Startup Disk to mark the 9 GB drive for startup.

5. Rebooted with Shift+Opt+Command+Del held down.

I get a floppy icon with "?." When I let go of the Del key, I get smilely Mac but it always boots from internal drive. Same story when I try Shift+Opt+Command+Del+SCSI ID.

Wierd thing is, I can divide the 9 GB into 2 GB partitions, and read and write just fine. But no boot. I have another external drive that is 2 GB total, and I can boot from it OK. There is something about the 9 GB that makes it unacceptable for booting. There was a suggestion about changing the interleave factor but that's a little beyond my ability/resources.

Anyway, thanks for the ideas! I think I'll just stick to my 2 GB drives.
