This message written: Tuesday, 27 April 2004 16:35:07 PDT Have been fiddling with these machines for some time. My goal has been to get the LaserWriter to show up on my ethernet network.
So far, I have had success connecting the LaserWriter to the IIsi through PhoneNet connectors, and have even had the LaserWriter connected to a Wallstreet notebook with no problems, also using the PhoneNet connectors. I have a couple of Asante boxes (a Micro AsantePrint and an AsanteTalk) which are supposed to allow LocalTalk devices to be connected to an ethernet. I thought I had the correct cable to connect the AppleTalk port on the LaserWriter directly to the printer port on the IIsi. Must not be the correct cable, as the IIsi doesn't "see" the printer in the Chooser when it is directly connected using the cable. I have a couple of extra PhoneNet boxes so thought I would "manufacture" a cable. I opened the boxes and directly connected matching colored wires and produced a cable with the DB9 on one end and the MineDIN 8 on the other. No joy. Anyone here know the wiring protocol for connecting a LocalTalk Printer with the DB9 port to the printer port on a Mac? Ken -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
